New Faces

A big welcome to Sally, Catherine and Joey! Sally comes from an extensive Physiotherapy and Pilates background. She is available for privates on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings.

Catherine joins us from a rich background in Pilates starting out as a Fitness Instructor she went on to train at Body Control in London. You can visit Catherine in the studio on a Wednesday morning or take one of her allegro classes on a Thursday morning.

Joey joins us as your welcome party at the front desk. We are sure you will make her feel welcome also. You can catch her from Monday to Fridays from 8am – 12pm.

Re-assessments

We have been busy working on structured re-assessments to ensure all clients who have one can get better movement and more understanding of their bodies. We recommend everyone have a re-assessment after their first 10 – 30 sessions and then once yearly. Please see Joey for available times to see Sally or Louise during July. Jakki will also be available from August.

Housekeeping

It would be wonderful if all clients could sign the sign in sheet when arriving for class. We keep these on record and like them to be accurate for future reference. We also like to have them in the case of an emergency so we know who we need to be looking out for.

If you don’t already have one, please see Joey to register a username and password for our online program. You can access your details and keep up to date.

For those of you who are reading the paper version of our newsletter, and haven’t received it via email, we don’t have your email address. If you would like to receive email updates, please pass on your email to Joey and also log on to our website www.pilatescentremosman.com.au and subscribe to our newsletters.

Renovations

Thank you to everyone for your patience during our renovation period. We are enjoying our fresh, new space and hope you are too!

Moving Through Winter

During these winter months we tend to lose quality in our posture and our beathing due to coughs, colds and holding our shoulders up in an attempt to feel warm and shield ourselves from that winter chill. Our joints feel stiff and cold.

Take the time to focus on deep breathing to warm the body and improve circulation. Before leaving the house in the morning, warm your joints by flexing, pointing and circling. Focus on one joint at a time sending the intention of warmth and comfort to assist you in better movement.

Reflexology & Massage

Its mid year and winter is well and truly settled in. Its often a time when we start to feel run down and the dreaded flu starts to linger around. During this season, keep your immunity and energy up by having some much needed reflexology or soothe those tired muscles with some massage.

Natasha is at the Centre on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for Reflexology and Ivana is around on Wednesday and Friday afternoons as well as Saturday mornings for massage. Be sure to phone Reception and make a booking. Both Therapists are giving FREE 15 minute treatments for those who have not yet been lucky enough to experience their Reflexology or Massage.

Receptionist Wanted

As most of you may already know, the lovely Jane has to leave us due to visa restrictions. We are now in need of a Receptionist to work Monday to Friday mornings 8am – 12pm. If anyone knows of someone who may be interested, please get them to email their CV to info@pilatescentremosman.com.au and contact Amy as soon as possible.

Abi & Joseph

A few of you have purchased some of the new Abi and Joseph gear. If their is anything on the rack that you would like but we don’t have your size, please let us know and we will order it in for you.

Abi & Joseph

We are pleased to be stocking Abi and Joseph in the studio again. We got to take a look at some of the new range at the Polestar Pilates Conference with some new exciting colours and styles. Apologies to the men as sadly Abi is sticking to designing women’s gear for a while longer.

Housekeeping

Just a couple of things to touch base on……..

Please note is is compulsory to bring clean socks and a towel with you to every session.

We would greatly appreciate it if all clients could please initial by there name on the sign in sheet left out for you before attending class. We do use these documents!

Online Access

It is with great excitement that we can now offer you access to our online scheduling software. Please see Jane at reception to create a sign in and she will also print you off a letter with instructions on how to access your information. You will be able to update your personal information, check your visits, view your schedule and see your purchases and credits remaining. If you do feel like fitting in an extra session and Reception is closed, you can also take a look and see if there is a space and if so, come in and join in the class! If you need help with doing this, please feel free to come and see us and we will try to be as helpful as possible.

Easter Schedule

In the previous newsletter we did mention we would be open for most public holidays, however we will now be closing on Good Friday 2nd April and Easter Monday 5th April. If you are scheduled for a Saturday booking and you will be unable to attend, please notify us asap. Those who attend on a Friday and/or a Monday, please feel free to contact us to make an alternative booking if you wish.

Reassessments – Getting more from Pilates

We still recommend that all clients old and new book in for a reassessment. Speak to your Instructors or anyone who has had a reassessment and find out more. We have already seen some great results! We cannot stress how beneficial having that 1:1 time can be. Ask questions, create awareness, take responsibility and make change!

Movement for thought

This season, be inspired to move with awareness. How do you feel in your body, what makes you feel good?

When you walk, do you feel length, balance and weightless?

When sitting at your desk, does your posture feel elongated? Is there space?

When you are going to sleep, do you feel comfort? Are you focusing on relaxed breathing?

Create awareness in all you do. Pilates prepares you for movement in life, wherever it takes you!

Wecome Back & Thank You!

We wish you all a very happy and healthy new year for 2010. Thank you for all your support and patience during a very busy and eventful 2009. We really appreciate it!

Farewell & Welcome

Farewell and thank you to Narelle who is no longer with us on a Saturday morning in the studio. We wish her well.

Congratulations to Mollie and Bruce on the arrival of Annabelle Cate on the 14th December. They are all doing really well.

Congratulations to Nellie on the birth of her daughter Tal.

Housekeeping

Sign In Sheets – Please make sure you are signing in when arriving for your class

Socks & Towels – It is an OH & S requirement that everyone bring clean socks and a towel. If you happen to forget, please let your Instructor know and we will hopefully have some spares around.

Lost Property – We have a pair of sunglasses that have not yet been claimed, along with a jumper, towels and socks. If you have misplaced any of these items, please contact reception. If these items are not claimed by the end of February we will be donating them to charity.

Class Cancellations – Please note that we need a minumum of 2 clients per hour to run the studio and allegro classes. We will give you as much notice as possible if we need to cancel your class and apologise if this causes any inconvenience. We will try our best to fit you into another suitable time.

Public Holidays – We will be staying open depending on numbers, on most public holidays this year, with exception to the 25th December. We will require cancellations for any other public holidays during the year if you are unable to attend. This means we will be staying open again during the Christmas/New Year period at a reduced schedule.

Reassessments – We suggest that all clients new and old have regular reassessments in order to get more from their pilates routine. Please see Jane at reception to book your reassessment with Jakki or Louise. Please speak to your Instructor if you have any questions regarding the reassessments.

Posture – Make good posture a habit this summer!

Good posture requires a low grade effort of your core abdominal muscle and gluteals.  So you can be doing a workout by just standing talking on the phone or waiting for the bus!

Helpful Hints:

Feet – weight on the outside of your heel and big toe, evenly distributed.

Knees – kneecaps facing over 3rd toe.

Pelvis – neutral pelvis ( pelvic triangle vertical).

Ribs cage – in line with front of pelvis.

Neck /shoulders – lengthen the head off the shoulders and broaden the collar bones.

Consult your Instructor for more infomation, or book a reassessment for an individual postural analysis.

Bank Holiday Monday

The Centre will be open ona reduced schedule for the October 5th Holiday Monday. There will be no Allegro or Gyrotonic classes, however Studio is running from 8.30am – 11.30am. Please contact Reception if you would like to book in on Monday or are unsure regarding your session.

We will also be open at a reduced schedule over the Christmas break. If you cannot make your regular classes please fill in a cancelation form and leave it at Reception. Feel free to book in at available Studio times if you would like a session to fit into your holiday swing!

Studio Notices

Is it time for a reassessment? We suggest that all clients have a reassessment at least once a year, this ensures we are fully up to date with your health concerns/goals.

Reassessments are done by Lousie or Jakki. They have been devised to monitor healthy movement patterns and highlight areas that need to be addressed.

In a reassessment individual detail will be offered to create a greater understanding of your own bodies needs.

Please remember to always bring clean socks and a towel to your sessions. If you do forget please let your Instructor know and she will provide you with spares that you may borrow. Remember we also have gripperz socks available at the studio to purchase for $15.

New Staff

Please join us in welcoming Narelle and Amanda to the Centre. Narelle teaches Studio on a Saturday morning and Amanda teaches Allegro on Thursday mornings.

Your Health

Learn to manage your stress levels. Take time to breathe. Ideally before you fall into a deep sleep, find your neutral spine position feel/notice where your breathe goes. See if you can direct your breathinto the back and sides of your ribcage.

Taking time and attention even to notice your breathing pattern helps to relax your body and connect it to your mind.

Ask your Instructor to check your simple breathing pattern to give you feed back.

Your Home Exercises

Stop slouching and bring awareness to you upper back with a simple pec stretch you can do every day.

Stand in the middle of a doorway, one foot in front of the other.

Place hands and elbows on doorway frame.

Slowly lean your body forward, taking weight evenly through your front foot.

Keep your shoulder girdle active,by drawing shoulder blades down and keeping chest/upper back lifted.

You should feel a gentle stretch across the front of your chest and each shoulder.

Hold for 30 seconds and enjoy twice a day.

preferred permanent studio time or alternatively fill in your name and

preferred times on the form at Reception. We plan to keep all clients at or

as close to their preferred times. Please be patient with us during this

time as we are still learning and we aim to make a smooth transition for everyone.

New Prices

For the 2009 – 2010 price list please see website

New Payment Packages

When you next purchase your block you have the option of choosing a block packagewhere you receive a reassessment at a 25% discount. (see 2009-2010 prices)

As our bodies are constantly changing, it is important to keep checking in and updating your programs to ensure you get the most out of your Pilates. It is also a great chance to address issues that you don’t get the chance to do in the studio or an allegro class.

Alternatively you may choose to experience a Gyrotonic Session with Anna or

James.

Water Bottles

Even though we probably don’t feel like drinking a lot of water at this time of year it is still very important to keep hydrated.

Maybe mention how heating dehydrates the body. We still have our Nikken

waterbottles in stock which are food grade standard and do not make your

water toxic.   Keep it with you and aim to drink the whole bottle over the day.

650ml – $19.95, 1L – $24.95

Public Holidays

The studio will be open public holidays but at a reduced schedule and according to demand.  The next public holiday is Labour Day on Mon 4th Oct, please let reception know   ahead of time.
